Do you have experience of providing programme / portfolio expertise across a broad range of business and technical projects?

This consulting opportunity is to support our client, a leading Professional Body, in ensuring their broad portfolio of projects has the necessary governance and rigour to ultimately deliver.

The project needs a consultant who can:

  • Set up and lead a programme office in complex transformation environments
  • Implement rigorous governance frameworks
  • Work within a small team environment where the expectation is flexibility and a hands on approach.

Key services:

The key services that you will be asked to provide are:

  • Provide hands-on leadership and coordination across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring alignment to strategic objectives.
  • Support prioritisation and resource planning across the transformation portfolio, working closely with IT and business leads
  • Establish and embed a fit-for-purpose Programme Management Office (PMO), including tools, templates, and reporting structures.
  • Define and implement governance processes, including risk and issue management, change control, and benefits tracking.
  • Drive project reporting and communication, ensuring accurate updates to senior stakeholders and sponsors.

Mandatory Requirements:

Successful consultants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in managing a portfolio of projects ranging in size from strategic transformation projects through to small-scale pieces as part of a portfolio.
  • The ability to operate in lean delivery environments, where the Programme Manager plays both strategic and delivery-focused roles within small or developing teams.
  • A proven track record of establishing and leading Programme Management Offices (PMOs) in complex, multi-project environments.
  • Strong background in applying governance frameworks, risk management, and assurance processes to drive consistency and accountability across delivery teams.
  • Hands-on experience in working with C-level stakeholders and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment between business goals, IT strategy, and project execution.

Optional Requirements:

It will also be advantageous if you have experience of working within a professional body or regulator.

Working Pattern: Onsite – London (Westminster) / Birmingham 3 days per week
