CT-4446 Scientific Computing Specialist - Numerical Methods

Do you have experience of providing scientific computing and numerical analysis expertise, on a modelling and simulation project within a pharmaceutical environment?

This consulting opportunity is to support our client, a leading pharmaceutical organisation, in developing a reusable analytical framework that underpins multiple modelling and simulation capabilities. The role will deliver model-agnostic analytical components using established open-source libraries to enable consistent and scalable modelling practices.

The project needs a consultant who has:

  • strong scientific computing and numerical analysis expertise
  • experience developing reusable analytical components for modelling and simulation environments
  • knowledge of parameter estimation, optimisation and uncertainty quantification
  • ability to apply analytical methods to complex models treated as black-box systems

Key services:

The key services that you will be asked to provide are:

  • develop reusable analytical capabilities for use across multiple modelling and simulation models
  • implement numerical analysis functions using mature open-source libraries
  • deliver capabilities supporting sensitivity analysis, Bayesian optimisation and model calibration
  • develop model-informed experimentation and estimability capabilities
  • ensure analytical components are reusable, maintainable and independent of individual models

Mandatory Requirements:

Successful consultants will be able to demonstrate:

  • expertise in numerical methods and scientific computing
  • experience of parameter estimation, optimisation and uncertainty quantification
  • knowledge of calibration, identifiability and sensitivity analysis techniques
  • experience developing software using established open-source scientific computing libraries
  • ability to work effectively with complex models as black-box systems
  • understanding of process modelling programming tools including Python, gPROMS and Aspen.

Optional Requirements:

It will also be advantageous if you have:

  • a recent Master's or PhD in applied mathematics, scientific computing, modelling, simulation or a related discipline
  • experience within the pharmaceutical sector
  • familiarity with Bayesian optimisation and model-informed experimentation approaches

Working Pattern: Predominantly Remote with occasional travel to Manchester
