Do you have experience of providing Ontologist expertise within a global organisation.
This consulting opportunity is to support our client, a leading pharmaceuticals company, in designing and implementing ontologies, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies that enable effective data integration, standardisation, and interoperability across scientific and technical domains.
The project needs a consultant who can:
- Translate complex scientific concepts into structured, machine-readable ontologies and taxonomies.
- Collaborate with both scientific and technical stakeholders to ensure ontological solutions meet business needs.
- Design and implement standards-based semantic models to support AI-driven analytics and data harmonisation.
Key services:
The key services that you will be asked to provide are:
- Design, develop, and maintain ontologies, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies aligned with PT&D data strategies.
- Apply semantic standards (e.g. RDF, OWL, SKOS, SHACL) to enable interoperability and knowledge sharing.
- Use tools such as Protégé, Neo4j, Progress Semaphore, and RDF/GitHub for ontology development and visualisation.
- Promote ontology-driven data governance by implementing validation rules and quality checks.
- Engage with stakeholders across scientific and data domains to gather requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose ontological models
Mandatory Requirements:
Successful consultants will be able to demonstrate:
- Extensive experience in ontology engineering, taxonomy design, and semantic data modelling ideally within a scientific or technical environment, or within a global manufacturing supply chain function.
- Strong knowledge of semantic web technologies and standards (RDF, OWL, SKOS, SHACL).
- Proficiency in ontology and graph database tools such as Protégé, Neo4j, Progress Semaphore, and RDF/GitHub.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including scientists, data architects, and software engineers.
- Demonstrated experience applying ontologies in data integration, analytics, or knowledge graph development.
Optional Requirements:
The following experience will also be advantageous:
- Familiarity with enterprise data modelling tools such as IDERA E/R Studio and data catalogues like Collibra.
- Experience supporting AI/ML or data science teams through ontology-driven data architectures.
