Do you have experience of providing rolling stock depot and operational expertise on a high-speed rail depot design and planning project?
This consulting opportunity is to support our client, a leading rail organisation, in developing and assuring new depot facilities for high-speed rolling stock. The role focuses on ensuring depot design, operations and servicing requirements are integrated into delivery and aligned with the wider fleet and depot strategy.
The project needs a consultant who has:
- significant experience working on or with rolling stock depots
- knowledge of depot design, management and operational planning
- experience operating across multi-disciplinary and multi-agency rail environments
- ability to manage and influence stakeholders across organisational boundaries.
Key Services
The key services that you will be asked to provide are:
- represent client at depot design reviews, ensuring operational and servicing requirements are incorporated
- support development of depot concept of operations and planning activities
- interface with HS2, depot contractor and delivery partners to support integration of depot and rolling stock design
- provide technical expertise and assurance to client activities interfacing with depot environments
- support alignment across depot design, operations, resourcing, facilities and maintenance considerations.
Mandatory Requirements
Successful consultants will be able to demonstrate:
- significant experience working on rolling stock depots
- experience of depot design, management and operational delivery
- experience across servicing, maintenance, resourcing and depot operations
- experience managing relationships across all levels of an organisation
- ability to work in multi-disciplinary, multi-agency environments and influence delivery across contractual boundaries.
Optional Requirements
It will also be advantageous if you have:
- understanding of UK railway operations or HS2 programme
- experience contributing to fleet and depot strategy development
- chartered engineer status or equivalent experience.
Working Pattern: Part Time approx. 2 days per week, with 1-2 days in client offices in Birmingham / Central London
Contract Type: Inside IR35 (TBC)
Start: 31 May 2026 (or sooner)
